HOW TO DISCOVER YOUR DECOR STYLE

HOW TO DISCOVER YOUR DECOR STYLE

You look around your home and you feel like it either doesn’t reflect who you are (anymore) or worse, you have collected so many different things over time and/or combined them with the style of everyone else that lives in your house and there is no cohesive look or decor style.

You now have a lot of things (that may or may not have meaning to you, affordable home decor ,  or that you may or may not love) and none of it seems to make sense together.

Your home has a serious identity crisis and you are left wondering what your style even is, how you can combine your style with the other (often not welcome) opinions in your home, and create the home you want.

The problem is that with so many ideas being constantly thrown at us, it is really difficult to decide which ideas and inspiration to carry out in our own home. Pinterest is definitely a culprit.

Too many ideas leave us feeling paralyzed and not knowing where to start.

WELL TODAY, WE ARE GOING TO TALK “DISCOVERING YOUR DECOR STYLE.”
And I’m going to make it easy on you because discovering your home decor style does not mean that you have to choose just one.

Nope. The most interesting homes layer different styles one right on top of the other. They have a way of weaving a few styles together to tell a story, create interest, and reflect the personality of the people who live there.

how to discover your home decor styleSave

Over the next couple of weeks we are going to dive into what it means to discover your style and how to use your definition to create the feeling in your home that you are after.

RELATED: (WEEK 2) HOW TO DEFINE YOUR HOME DECOR STYLE

The focus is going to be on the feeling you want to create in your home.

We are not going to use fancy words like, traditional, transitional, or even eclectic. Those don’t help you one bit when making decisions about what stays, goes, or comes into your home.

Instead we are going to focus on what you love (that you already have) and why you love it so that we can do more of it! Typically that involves some sort of warm and fuzzy feeling and editing what is in a room down to (mostly) the things that give us those good feelings is going to get you loving your home.

It may reqire some homework on your part. Some soul searching. Some tuff decisions. Even some compromise (ugh…compromise.)

WHY YOU NEED TO DISCOVER YOUR HOME DECOR STYLE:

In the end, my hope is that everyone feels like they’ve won. And that they are now living in a space that feels good and reflects who they are.

Having a clear definition of your home decor style will help you avoid making random purchases for your home just because you like something. We can like a lot of things, but that doesn’t mean that they all need to end up in our homes.

Sound good? Let’s get started!

ONE WAY TO FIGURE OUT YOUR HOME DECOR STYLE.
Let’s start with figuring out your home style and how to gather a clear vision of what that style looks like.

The first thing I want you to do is grab a notebook or a sheet of paper and  go sit in your favorite room.

Once you are there I want you to look around and really think about the following…

Why do you love this space?
How does this room feel to you?
What is your favorite thing about the room?
What are your favorite pieces of furniture in the room? Why? And what do they have in common? (color, texture, style?)
What are your favorite accessories in the room? Why do you love them? What do they have in common? (color, style, sentimental, beautiful, functional?)
Is there a color in the room that you love? Is there a lot or a little of it?
Is there a texture in the room that you love?
Is there anything in the room that you don’t like or would want to remove to make the room feel more you?

Write down the answers to each question and then next to each element answer the follow up questions. Really think about how they make you feel/ why you love them and a short description. This will allow you to see on paper what they have in common.

Here’s my example. (I’m in my family room.)

living room with greys and pops of color: a simple home decor styleSave

I love this space because it reflects my style the most out of all the rooms in my home. It feels comfortable, fun, and organized. My favorite thing about the room is the rug because it adds just enough color to the room to make it fun without being too “in your face.” I’m also a huge fan of pattern and geometrics, which this rug has. I also love the built ins because they allow my kids to keep a lot of their toys right here so we can play and make big messes, but at the end of the day it can all be put away and I can have my adult space back. My favorite piece of furniture in the room is the small white side table. I love that it is round (since everything in my home is so square) and I love the circle detail on it. Bonus that it holds all of my kid’s puzzles so it is functional too. My favorite accessory in the room is probably the fiddle leaf fig tree. It adds height to the corner and I’ve always wanted a fiddle leaf. They are just cool and it goes with the slight mid century vibe that I’m drawn too. The room is mostly neutral which I love because it feels calm to me. I love the little pops of color that make it feel fun especially the little bit of yellow and pink that I’ve added recently. There isn’t a ton of texture in the room. I would love to add some maybe on the walls to give some character. I would remove some of the accessories on the built ins because they are no longer my style. I’ve kept them because I haven’t found other things to replace them (time and budget) and I’m constantly thinking that I need to edit the shelves to feel less cluttered and hap-hazard.

When I read what I wrote it is evident that the things I love are

pretty neutral in color
have clean lines and geometric pattern
and that I like a space to feel comfortable and not cluttered.
It becomes evident that I like to have a place for things that feel overwhelming and cluttery (like toys) and I can do my best relaxing when these things are put away and out of sight.

When I think about my least favorite room in my home, my office, I realize that it doesn’t include any of these elements. It is cluttered, lacks color, organization, and isn’t somewhere I ever want to hang out. (Which is totally sad since this is the space where I muster up all of my creative ideas and do all things business related. – Clearly I need to get going on an office overhaul.)

NOW IT’S TIME TO ANALYZE.
Once you’ve sat and thought about it and taken some notes, read what you wrote down and from it I want you to make a short bullet list (like I did above) about what it is you love.

Take note of what it is in the room that you don’t love, the things you would take out to make it more you, or something in the room that bugs you. (These may be things that your significant other does love, so don’t take them out just yet…we’ll get to the blending of styles and compromising in a couple of weeks.)

Defining what you love is one thing, but being clear about what you don’t like is equally important.

For example I tend to gravitate toward furniture with clean lines. You probably won’t find any furniture in my home with ornate details because to me, ornate details scream breakable and delicate. Not something that is necessarily relaxing with a 3 year old that we’ve nicknamed “distructo” running around. But to someone else ornate details could scream feminine and calm so those details in their home would be spot on.

My point is, your style and what the things in your home make you feel are particular to you. I can’t tell you what to put in your home. That is up to you, but I can help you define what it is you love (and why) and help you bring it all together to create a space that makes sense.

From this list we can further define our styles and when we have a clear definition of our style, it makes future decisions instantly easier because we have a guideline. Anything that doesn’t fall into the limits of the guideline, doesn’t make it into the room.

GATHER INSPIRATION AND EDIT.

The last thing I want you to do this week (before we jump to the next step next week) is to create some sort of inspiration file. Your personal “style file.”

There are a few different ways you can do this, a Pinterest board (make it secret if you want to,) a small box, a binder, or notebook with images from magazines that you’ve clipped, or even a posterboard or cork board that you pin or tape inspiration elements to.

Start by gathering anything that you see that you love.
Next, go through your file and edit. Only keep your favorite things. It is easy to say you like something, but what ends up happening is that you like one thing, until the next idea comes along and you save that one too. You end up with a lot of ideas and inspiration that often contradict each other. So give yourself a cut off point to stop gathering inspiration and ideas and go back and edit your file so that you only have your absolute favorites left.
Group your favorites. Look at your inspiration and find your themes. Is there a specific color that you are drawn to? Is there a style of furniture that you gravitate toward? Is there a lot of print and pattern in the rooms you love, or a lot of solids? You get the idea.
The rule is that every element of inspiration that you gather must be functional, beautiful, create interest, or bring about the feeling that you are going for for your home.

Each one should fall into the guidelines of the short bullet list that you made today.

Go beyond things looking pretty and tap into how it makes you feel. This will allow you to edit much more often and not just end up with a bunch of things that look good, but rather tell your story and reflect your personality in a much more cohesive way.

And one last thing. If you find that you are up against the styles of someone else in your home have them do the exact same exercises that you just did here.

They will most likely be in a completely different room, but in a couple of weeks I’m going to walk you through some steps to mix your styles together to create more rooms in your home that you both love.

You’ve got your work cut out for you, so get to it!

Style Guides for Home Interiors

Style Guides for Home Interiors

Whether you're decorating a single room or a whole house, you can find the perfect theme and style to match. Focus in on your preferences, affordable home decor , options, and elements that will allow you to achieve your dream room or home—even if you're revamping a cottage or a castle.

With so many products on the market, buyers traveling around the globe, and shoppers expecting more for their homes, consumers have many choices available to them. There's an infinite array of finishes, colors, decorations, and prices. Although the sky is the limit when it comes to giving your home interior a new look, it's important to narrow down a specific theme for your project.

Start With the Basics
If you haven't identified your particular style yet, or if you're uncertain about how to proceed, you can consider four main styles to choose from:

Casual Style: Casual looks bring comfort,

warmth, and relaxation to the home. This can be accomplished with rectangular elements, rustic design, and soft furniture with textured fabrics.
Formal Style: Formal styles invite elegance, symmetry, and exquisite furniture. Consider an elegant style with high ceilings, polished woods, and tall windows. Imported rugs, antique accessories, and decorative trims are a must for this type of interior.
Contemporary Style: Modern styles keep current trends alive. While what's hot changes, typically the contemporary look includes a fundamental, simplistic, and subtle sophistication. There's often neutral colors involved, structural elements available, and furniture pieces that are smooth and geometric.
Traditional: Take a look at traditional styles and compare them with some of the latest decorating trends. You'll likely find that nothing is truly new, but rather revamped. Regardless, it's fun to see how old favorite themes, fabrics, and details adapt to a fresh new look.

Gather Influences From Around the World

After deciding on a general style to follow for your design, further engage in photos and inspiration that spark your interest when it comes to influence and color. While each basic style can provide an individual and distinctive look, really getting into the details can make the difference between feeling like you're in a New York City loft and an Irish home on the coast. Consider influences like the following:

French Country Style: French country decorating usually involves mixed patterns, symmetrical chairs, chandeliers, and a pop of color in an ivory kitchen.
Tuscan Style: Tuscan decor combines natural stone, wood, and earthy colors. Think terracotta, open cupboards, copper pots, and rustic shutters.
Swedish Style: Light, clean, white, and blue is the Swedish way. The casual look is key when it comes to minimalistic surfaces with gold and red accents, straight lines and gentle curves for furniture, and simple woven fabrics.
Paris Apartment Style: Adding romance and mystery to your apartment can be achieved with a little bit of Paris. Think baroque, rococo, and neoclassical with rich jewel colors, luxurious silks, and large posters of French landmarks.

Choose Colors and Flair

Depending on the basic style and influence you're going for, colors will range from black and white to red, white, and blue. Consider colors and patterns that go with your theme along with accent colors, whether that includes chocolate browns, floral designs, denim blues, and more. For example, a colored accent wall can liven up the space or make the size of the room feel bigger. Use color theory and other techniques to choose the right one.

You can also take your interior project one step forward by expressing your own personal flair, whether it's rustic, shabby chic, tropical, or western. Consider current decorating trends, how to incorporate furniture and accessories you love, and how you want your area to feel.

The Best SEO Tools of 2018

The Best SEO Tools of 2018

A key aspect of running any website that sells products and services is keeping track of your search engine ranking. By tracking keywords and generating research-driven reports, you can get ahead of the competition. And Google is evolving its search technology with new algorithms and forays into artificial intelligence (AI). With search engine optimization (SEO) applications, you can "optimize" your website's position, and this roundup provides what you need to choose the right tool.

white label seo software , The emphasis on tools, meaning plural, is important. There's no one magical way to plop your website atop every single search results page, at least not organically, though there are best practices. If you want to buy a paid search ad spot, then Google AdWords will happily take your money. This will certainly put your website at the top of Google's search results but always with an indicator that yours is a paid position. To win the more valuable and customer-trusted organic search spots (meaning those spots that start below all of those marked with an "Ad" icon), a balanced and comprehensive SEO strategy is a must-have.

This can be broken down into three primary categories: ad hoc keyword research, ongoing search position monitoring, and crawling, which is when Google bots search through sites to determine which pages to index. In this roundup, we'll explain what each of those categories means for your business, the types of platforms and tools you can use to cover all of your SEO bases, and what to look for when investing in those tools.

Breaking Down the SEO Tool Landscape

This review roundup covers 10 SEO tools: Ahrefs, AWR Cloud, DeepCrawl, KWFinder.com, LinkResearchTools, Majestic, Moz Pro, Searchmetrics Essentials, SEMrush, and SpyFu. The primary function of KWFinder.com, Moz Pro, SEMrush, and SpyFu falls under keyword-focused SEO. When deciding what search topics to target and how best to focus your SEO efforts, treating keyword querying like an investigative tool is where you'll likely get the best results.

These cloud-based, self-service tools have plenty of other unique optimization features, too. Some, such as AWR Cloud and Searchmetrics, also do search position monitoring—which means tracking how your page is doing against popular search queries. Others, such as SpyFu and LinkResearchTools, have more interactive data visualizations, granular and customizable reports, and return on investment (ROI) metrics geared toward online marketing and sales goals. The more powerful platforms can sport deeper analytics on paid advertising and pay-per-click (PPC) SEO as well. Though, at their core, the tools are all rooted in their ability to perform on-demand keyword queries.

We concentrated on the keyword-based aspect of all the SEO tools that included the capabilities, because that's where most business users will primarily focus. Monitoring particular keywords and your existing URL positions in search rankings is important but, once you've set that up, it's largely an automated process. Automated position-monitoring features are a given in most SEO platforms and most will alert you to issues, but they don't actively improve your search position. Though in tools such as AWR Cloud, Moz Pro, and Searchmetrics, position monitoring can become a proactive process that feeds back into your SEO strategy. It can spur further keyword research and targeted site and competitor domain crawling.

The Periodic Table of SEO Success Factors

When your business has an idea about a new search topic for which you think your content has the potential to rank highly, the ability to spin up a query and investigate it right away is key. Even more importantly, the tool should give you enough data points, guidance, and recommendations to confirm whether or not that particular keyword, or a related keyword or search phrase, is an SEO battle worth fighting (and, if so, how to win). We'll get into the factors and metrics to help you make those decisions a little later.

Crawlers are largely a separate product category. There is some overlap with the self-service keyword tools (Ahrefs, for instance, does both), but crawling is another important piece of the puzzle. We tested several tools with these capabilities either as their express purpose or as features within a larger platform. Ahrefs, DeepCrawl, Majestic, and LinkResearchTools are all primarily focused on crawling and backlink tracking, the inbound links coming to your site from another website. Moz Pro, SpyFu, SEMrush, and AWR Cloud all include domain crawling or backlink tracking features as part of their SEO arsenals.

Website Crawling 101

There are three types of crawling, all of which provide useful data. Internet-wide crawlers are for large-scale link indexing. It's a complicated and often expensive process but, as with social listening, the goal is for SEO experts, business analysts, and entrepreneurs to be able to map how websites link to one another and extrapolate larger SEO trends and growth opportunities. Crawling tools generally do this with automated bots continuously scanning the web. As is the case with most of these SEO tools, many businesses use internal reporting features in tandem with integrated business intelligence (BI) tools to identify even deeper data insights. Ahrefs and Majestic are the two clear leaders in this type of crawling. They have invested more than a decade's worth of time and resources, compiling and indexing millions and billions, respectively, of crawled domains and pages.

Website-specific crawlers, or software that crawls one particular website at a time, are great for analyzing your own website's SEO strengths and weaknesses; they're arguably even more useful for scoping out the competition's. Website crawlers analyze a website's URL, link structure, images, CSS scripting, associated apps, and third-party services to evaluate SEO. Not unlike how a website monitoring tool scans for a webpage's overall "health," website crawlers can identify factors such as broken links and errors, website lag, and content or metadata with low keyword density and SEO value, while mapping a website's architecture. Website crawlers can help your business improve website user experience (UX) while identifying key areas of improvement to help pages rank better. DeepCrawl is, by far, the most granular and detailed website crawler in this roundup, although Ahrefs and Majestic also provide comprehensive domain crawling and website optimization recommendations. Another major crawler we didn't test is Screaming Frog, which we'll soon discuss in the section called "The Enterprise Tier."

The Best SEO Tools

What Are Backlinks?

The third type of crawling tool that we touched upon during testing is backlink tracking. Backlinks are one of the building blocks of good SEO. Analyzing the quality of your website's inbound backlinks and how they're feeding into your domain architecture can give your SEO team insight into everything from your website's strongest and weakest pages to search visibility on particular keywords against competing brands.

LinkResearchTools makes backlink tracking its core mission and provides a wide swath of backlink analysis tools. LinkResearchTools and Majestic provide the best backlink crawling of this bunch. Aside from these two backlink powerhouses, many of the other tools we tested, such as Ahrefs, Moz Pro, Searchmetrics, SEMrush, and SpyFu, also include solid backlink tracking capabilities.

The Enterprise Tier

The last piece of the complicated SEO tool ecosystem is the enterprise tier. This roundup is geared toward SEO for small to midsize businesses (SMBs), for which these platforms are likely priced out of reach. But there's a handful of enterprise SEO software providers out there that essentially roll all of the self-service tools into one comprehensive platform. These platforms combine ongoing position monitoring, deep keyword research, and crawling with customizable reports and analytics.

The enterprise platforms can also tie in larger content marketing campaigns and ROI metrics for integrated digital marketing teams. Large enterprise organizations with flush SEO and digital marketing budgets may want to consider enterprise SEO platforms such as Brightedge, Conductor, and Linkdex.

In the enterprise space, one major trend we're seeing lately is data import across the big players. Much of SEO involves working with the data Google gives you and then filling in all of the gaps. Google Search Console (formerly, Webmaster Tools) only gives you a 90-day window of data, so enterprise vendors, such as Conductor and Screaming Frog, are continually adding and importing data sources from other crawling databases (like DeepCrawl's). They're combining that with Google Search Console data for more accurate, ongoing Search Engine Results Page (SERP) monitoring and position tracking on specific keywords. SEMrush and Searchmetrics (in its enterprise Suite packages) offer this level of enterprise SERP monitoring as well, which can give your business a higher-level view of how you're doing against competitors.

Platforms such as AWR Cloud still give you great ongoing position monitoring in an affordable tool, but that aspect of the market is becoming a more high-end affair. For SMBs, a smart combination of self-service tools is the much better bang for your SEO buck.

Running the Numbers
Evaluating which self-service SEO tools are best suited to your business incorporates a number of factors, features, and SEO metrics. Ultimately, though, when we talk about "optimizing," it all comes down to how easy the tool makes it to get, understand, and take action on the SEO data you need. Particularly when it comes to ad hoc keyword investigation, it's about the ease with which you can zero in on the ground where you can make the most progress. In business terms, that means making sure you're targeting the most opportune and effective keywords available in your industry or space—the words for which your customers are searching.

The terms SEO experts often start with are page authority (PA) and domain authority (DA). DA, a concept in fact coined by Moz, is a 100-point scale that predicts how well a website will rank on search engines. PA is the modern umbrella term for what started as Google's original PageRank algorithm, developed by co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Google still uses PageRank internally but has gradually stopped supporting the increasingly irrelevant metric, which it now rarely updates. PA is the custom metric each SEO vendor now calculates independently to gauge and rate (again, on a scale of 100) the link structure and authoritative strength of an individual page on any given domain. There is an SEO industry debate as to the validity of PA and DA, and how much influence the PageRank algorithm still holds in Google results (more on that in a bit), but outside of Google's own analytics, they're the most widely accepted metrics out there.

The Best SEO Tools

That's why PA and DA metrics often vary from tool to tool. Each ad hoc keyword tool we tested came up with slightly different numbers based on what they're pulling from Google and other sources, and how they're doing the calculating. The shortcoming of PA and DA is that, even though they give you a sense of how authoritative a page might be in the eyes of Google, they don't tell you how easy or difficult it will be to position it for a particular keyword. This difficulty is why a third, newer metric is beginning to emerge among the self-service SEO players: difficulty scores.

Difficulty scores are the SEO market's answer to the patchwork state of all the data out there. All five tools we tested stood out because they do offer some version of a difficulty metric, or one holistic 1-100 score of how difficult it would be for your page to rank organically (without paying Google) on a particular keyword. Difficulty scores are inherently subjective, and each tool calculates it uniquely. In general, it incorporates PA, DA, and other factors, including search volume on the keyword, how heavily paid search ads are influencing the results, and how the strong the competition is in each spot on the current search results page.

It's exceedingly easy as an SEO team to spin your wheels trying to optimize a term into which your business will never be able to break. Difficulty scores quantify that potential opportunity versus risk proposition into one number, which is why we spent a lot of time in this roundup testing how effectively each tool represented keyword difficulty.

For example, let's say the keyword difficulty of a particular term is in the 80s and 90s in the top five spots on a particular search results page. Then, in positions 6-9, the difficulty scores drop down into the 50s and 60s. Using that difficulty score, a business can begin targeting that range of spots and running competitive analysis on the pages to see who your website could knock out of their spot.

It All Comes Back to Google
The caveat in all of this is that, in one way or another, most of the data and the rules governing what ranks and what doesn't (often on a week-to-week basis) comes from Google. If you know where to find and how to use the free and freemium tools Google provides under the surface—AdWords, Google Analytics, and Google Search Console being the big three—you can do all of this manually. Much of the data that the ongoing position monitoring, keyword research, and crawler tools provide is extracted in one form or another from Google itself. Doing it yourself is a disjointed, meticulous process, but you can piece together all the SEO data you need to come up with an optimization strategy should you be so inclined.

As Google tweaks its algorithms, tools, and search engine policies, so goes the SEO industry. The AdWords API is still the foundation of much of the data with which SEO tools work. It lets apps work with the AdWords platform so companies can automate account management, customize reporting and manage ads based on inventory.

Google used to make much of its ad hoc keyword search functionality available as well, but now the Keyword Planner is behind a paywall in AdWords as a premium feature. Difficulty scores are inspired by the way Google calculates its Competition Score metric in AdWords, though most vendors calculate difficulty using PA and DA numbers correlated with search engine positions, without AdWords data blended in at all. Search Volume is a different matter, and is almost always directly lifted from AdWords. Not to mention keyword suggestions and related keywords data, which in many tools come from Google's Suggest and Autocomplete APIs.

Google Search

An SEO expert could probably use a combination of AdWords for the initial data, Google Search Console for website monitoring, and Google Analytics for internal website data. Then the SEO expert can transform and analyze the data using a BI tool. The problem for most business users is that's simply not an effective use of time and resources. These tools exist to take the manual data gathering and granular, piecemeal detective work out of SEO. It's about making a process that's core to modern business success more easily accessible to someone who isn't an SEO consultant or expert.

Where the free Google tools can provide complementary value is in fact-checking. If you're checking out more than one of these SEO tools, you'll quickly realize this isn't an exact science. If you were to look at the PA, DA, and keyword difficulty scores across KWFinder.com, Moz, SpyFu, SEMrush, Ahrefs, AWR Cloud, and Searchmetrics for the same set of keywords, you might get different numbers across each metric separated by anywhere from a few points to dozens. If your business is unsure about an optimization campaign on a particular keyword, you can cross-check with data straight from a free AdWords account and Search Console. Another trick: Enable Incognito mode in your browser along with an extension like the free Moz Toolbar and you can run case-by-case searches on specific keywords to get an organic look at your target search results page.

The SEO tools in this roundup provide tremendous digital marketing value for businesses, but it's important not to forget that we're living in Google's world under Google's constantly evolving rules. Oh and don't forget to check the tracking data on Bing now and again, either. Google's the king with 90 percent of worldwide internet search, according to StatCounter, but the latest ComScore numbers have Bing market share sitting at 23 percent. Navigable news and more useful results pages make Bing a viable choice in the search space as well.

New Vectors: Mobile, Voice Search, and AI
Over the past year or two, we've also seen Google begin to fundamentally alter how its search algorithm works. Google, as with many of the tech giants, has begun to bill itself as an artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) company rather than as a search company. AI tools will provide a way to spot anomalies in search results and collect insights. In essence, Google is changing what it considers its crown jewels. As the company builds ML into its entire product stack, its core search product has begun to behave a lot differently. This is heating up the cat-and-mouse game of SEO and sending the industry chasing after Google once again.

The introduction of new search vectors such as Featured Snippets, Quick Answers, and mobile-optimized formats such as Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) are indicative of the way search is evolving around three key factors: mobile search, predictive recommendations, and voice-activated queries from smart home devices and virtual assistants.

For traditional SEO, this has meant some loss of key real estate. For SERP results pages that once had 10 positions, it's not uncommon now to see seven organic search results below a Featured Snippet or Quick Answer box. Rather than relying on PageRank algorithm for a specific keyword, Google search queries rely increasingly on ML algorithms and the Google Knowledge Graph to trigger a Quick Answer or pull a description into a snippet atop the SERP.

SEO platforms are leaning into this shift by emphasizing mobile-specific analytics. What desktop and mobile show you for the same search results is now different. Mobile results will often pull key information into mobile-optimized "rich cards," while on desktop you'll see snippets. SEMrush splits its desktop and mobile indexes, actually providing thumbnails of each page of search results depending on the device, and other vendors including Moz are beginning to do the same.

On the voice and natural language side, it's all about FAQs (frequently asked questions). Virtual assistants and smart home devices have made voice recognition and natural language processing (NLP) not only desirable but an expected search vector. To predict how to surface a business's results in a voice search, SEO professionals now need to concentrate on ranking for the common NL queries around target keywords. Google's Quick Answers exist to give its traditional text-based search results an easy NL component to pull from when Google Assistant is answering questions.

How Your Business Can Make the Most of Machine Learning

This is also where you can see Google's ML algorithms at work. Powered by Google Cloud PlatformCall for Pricing at Google, the way Quick Answers and Featured Snippets are extracted gets increasingly smarter as Google introduces new innovations in deep learning and neural networks. These constantly evolving algorithms are baked into how the search engine surfaces information.

All of this plays into a new way businesses and SEO professionals need to think when approaching what keywords to target and what SERP positions to chase. The enterprise SEO platforms are beginning to do this, but the next step in SEO is full-blown content recommendation engines and predictive analytics. By using all of the data you pull from your various SEO tools, Google Search Console, and keyword and trend data from social listening platforms, you can optimize for a given keyword or query before Google does it first. If your keyword research uncovers a high-value keyword or SERP for which Google has not yet monetized the page with a Quick Answer or a Featured Snippet, then pounce on that opportunity.

How to Choose Your SEO Tool Suite

When it comes to finally choosing the SEO tools that suit your organization's needs, the decision comes back to that concept of gaining tangible ground. It's about discerning which tools provide the most effective combination of keyword-driven SEO investigation capabilities, and then on top of that, the added keyword organization, analysis, recommendations, and other useful functionality to take action on the SEO insights you uncover. If a product is telling you what optimizations need to be made to your website, does it then provide technology to help you make those improvements?

The self-service keyword research tools we tested all handle pricing relatively similarly, pricing by month with discounts for annual billing with most SMB-focused plans ranging in the $50-$200 per month range. Depending on how your business plans to use the tools, the way particular products delineate pricing might make more sense. KWFinder.com is the cheapest of the bunch, but it's focused squarely on ad hoc keyword and Google SERP queries, which is why the product sets quotas for keyword lookups per 24 hours at different tiers. Moz and Ahrefs price by campaigns or projects, meaning the number of websites you're tracking in the dashboard. Most of the tools also cap the number of keyword reports you can run per day. SpyFu prices a bit differently, providing unlimited data access and results but capping the number of sales leads and domain contacts.

The Best SEO Tools

For the purposes of our testing, we standardized keyword queries across the five tools. To test the primary ad hoc keyword search capability with each tool, we ran queries on an identical set of keywords. From there we tested not only the kinds of data and metrics the tool gave, but how it handled keyword management and organization, and what kind of optimization recommendations and suggestions the tool provided.

Enterprise SEO platforms put all of this together—high-volume keyword monitoring with premium features like landing page alignments and optimization recommendations, plus on-demand crawling and ongoing position monitoring—but they're priced by custom quote. While the top-tier platforms give you features like in-depth keyword expansion and list management, and bells and whistles like SEO recommendations in the form of automated to-do lists, SMBs can't afford to drop thousands of dollars per month.

Ultimately, we awarded Editors' Choices to three tools: Moz Pro, SpyFu, and AWR Cloud. Moz Pro is the best overall SEO platform of the bunch, with comprehensive tooling across keyword research, position monitoring, and crawling on top of industry-leading metrics incorporated by many of the other tools in this roundup. SpyFu is the tool with the best user experience (UX) for non-SEO experts and the deepest array of ROI metrics as well as SEO lead management for an integrated digital sales and marketing team.

AWR Cloud, our third Editors' Choice, is rated slightly lower than Moz Pro and SpyFu as an all-in-one SEO platform. However, AWR Cloud leads the pack in ongoing position monitoring and proactive search rank tracking on top of solid overall functionality. On the ad hoc keyword research front, the KWFinder.com tool excels. DeepCrawl's laser focus on comprehensive domain scanning is unmatched for site crawling, while Ahrefs and Majetic can duke it out for the best internet-wide crawling index. When it comes to backlinks tracking, LinkResearchTools and Majestic are the top choices. SEMrush and Searchmetrics do a bit of everything.

When it comes down to it, you want to choose a platform or invest in complementary tools that provide a single unified SEO workflow. It begins with keyword research to target optimal keywords and SERP positions for your business, along with SEO recommendations to help your rank. Those recommendations feed naturally into crawing tools, which should give you insight into your website and competitors' sites to then optimize for those targeted opportunities. Once you're ranking on those keywords, vigilant monitoring and rank tracking should help maintain your positions and grow your lead on competitors when it comes to the search positions that matter to your organization's bottom line. Finally, the best tools also tie those key search positions directly to ROI with easy-to-understand metrics, and feed your SEO deliverables and goals right back into your digital marketing strategy.

The tools we tested in this round of reviews were judged on which do the best job of giving you the research-driven investigation tools to identify SEO opportunities ripe for growth, along with offering enterprise-grade functionality at a reasonable price. Whether one of these optimization tools is an ideal fit for your business, or you end up combining more than one for a potent SEO tool suite, this roundup will help you decide what makes the most sense for you. There's a wealth of data out there to give your business an edge and boost pages higher and higher in key search results. Make sure you've got the right SEO tools in place to seize the opportunities.

Make Embroidery Patches Today With the Patch-Kit Pro

With Colman and Company’s Embroidery Patch-Kit Pro, your embroidery business will have everything it needs to make easy one-offs or small production runs. A Patch-Kit Pro allows your embroidery equipment to customize every patch you sell.

We do custom patches, embroidered patches, printed patches, custom Velcro patches, clothing labels, PVC patches, custom leather patches, custom keychains, and other promotional products. Following is an overview of our products.

The Patch-Kit Pro is designed exclusively for embroidery businesses looking to produce larger quantities of patches immediately. The kit is centered on the DK-JP14 Heat Press with a 12 X 14″ platen, end of cycle alarm and an industrial-type clamping system.

The Patch-Kit Pro includes:

DK-JP14 Heat Press
Hot Knife and Universal Cutting Tip
Hot Tool Holder
5 Yards of White Patch Material
5 Yards of Black Patch Material
10 Yards of Heat Seal
Using the Colman Patch-Kit Pro and Patch Material to create customized patches is easy, by following these steps:

1.      Create a Design

The three things to keep in mind, when creating custom embroidered patch designs:

The patch must have a satin running stitch as a border, wider is better than thin.
The border and shape of the patch should be smooth to allow for easier cutting.
Choose a Patch Material will be your background color – no stitches needed.
You must use Polyester embroidery thread, like Madeira Polyneon embroidery thread.
Colman Patch Material is made of 100 percent polyester, with an “embroidered” look to you the time, effort and cost with stitching the background yourself. Patch material comes in 10 different colors, which make it easy to choose a background color for your patch.

2.      Hoop Patch Material

With Colman Patch Material, there is no need for a stabilizer, backing or topping. With Patch Material, there is no adhesive on the back to catch in the bobbin case and mess up your embroidery machine. This makes it necessary to make sure you hoop the fabric straight.

Patch Material is unique and we have spent a long time finding the best solution.  It’s completely different from HTV material such as the HTV brand vinyl.

3.      Sew Out the Patch Design

When creating a design with your embroidery machine, always stitch out a little more to accommodate any mistakes.

4.      Trim Excess Patch Material

When sewing a bunch of embroidered patches, keep all patches together when trimming excess material.

5.      Attach Patch Material to Heat Seal Product

Place Teflon Wrap flat down to protect the Heat Press.
Place the Patch Material face down your heat press, or if using a hand iron, place it on a worktable.
Place Heat Seal materials on top of the sewn patches face down with paper side up.
Use Teflon Sheets on both top and bottom, to make a “sandwich.” The Patch Material has hot melt glue on the backside.
Heat the patch on a heat press at 320-330° F for about 10-15 seconds, using 40 psi of pressure. On a hand iron, use significant hand weight with no steam.
Turn the Teflon Wrap/patch “sandwich” over and heat it again.
6.      Cut Out Sealed Patches
Remove extra patch and seal material by roughly cutting out sealed patches. Leave ¼ to ½” of material surrounding the satin stitch border.

7.      Trim Finished Patch

After heating a Hot Knife for 15 minutes, cut out the individual patches. Don’t forget to use a Hot Tool Stand for protection! First, put the patch on a glass surface, and then run the Universal Tip along the edge of the patch directly along the satin stitch. This will form a seal along the edge, to secure the stitch. Wipe excess on the Hot Knife with a dry cloth or paper towel.

Use a consistent and pressure and speed for best cutting results with the Hot Knife.

Now you have a completed embroidery patch that can be attached by heat or sewing. With a heat press, use 320-330° F for 15-20 seconds, turn over and press from the back of the garment for another 15-20 seconds. This activates the glue on the back of the embroidered patch, making a permanent bond with the fabric, one that is almost impossible to pull off (at least without ripping the fabric first).

Custom embroidered patches can be a bargain for the customer that wants high-quality embroidery at a lower cost than direct embroidery. Organizations get considerable pride in showing their distinct character when embroidered patches. Custom patches provide a professional look to uniforms, work outfits and cheer apparel, among others.

What is an Orthodontist?

What is an Orthodontist?

Many people use the terms dentist and orthodontist interchangeably. That’s not quite right. The two professions certainly have similarities, but orthodontia is a specific type of dental care. These specialists treat certain types of dental problems . http://www.orthodontistinsanantonio.com
You may never need to see an orthodontist. If you do, however, you need to understand exactly what’s in store for you. Here’s a guide on orthodontists.

Defining an Orthodontist

A dentist is a doctor who works with several parts of the body. Areas of focus include the mouth, jaw, teeth, gums, and nerves. Orthodontists work in a more specialized section of the field. Their priority is the straightening of teeth. In simplest terms, all orthodontists are dentists but few dentists are orthodontists.

An orthodontist diagnoses overbites, occlusions, misaligned teeth and jaws, and overcrowded mouths. After the diagnosis, the orthodontist tries to solve any issues they discover. If left untreated, overbites, underbites, open bites, and cross bites are all problems that will grow worse over time. An orthodontist is an expert who repairs these conditions.

What Does an Orthodontist Do?

An orthodontist receives special training to fix misaligned teeth. If a dentist refers you to an orthodontist, the inference is that your teeth aren’t quite right. It’s not a big deal at all. You’ll likely receive a recommendation for braces or some other method of straightening your teeth. The orthodontist is the person who does this job.

The most important job for an orthodontist is identifying issues with your teeth and mouth. A gap in your teeth, called a diastema, will grow larger over time. Your teeth will suffer, as the structure of the mouth and gums needs a tight alignment. The orthodontist will try to pull your teeth closer together to correct the issue. Conversely, having too many teeth is equally bad, especially for children. An orthodontist is likely to extract the excess teeth to create better spacing.

An orthodontist has several tools to solve these alignment problems. Braces are the most famous solution. These appliances are bands that encircle the teeth. The orthodontist then bonds brackets on the front of the teeth, and the bands connect to them via wires. In combination, the structures pull teeth into an upright alignment, straightening them over time. The process isn’t immediate, but it’s extremely effective.

If braces aren’t a great option, an orthodontist may use an aligner instead. The best-known example is Invisalign. By design, it’s not visible from a distance, making your smile more attractive. That’s because an aligner doesn’t use metal wires or brackets. Patients like them since they’re removable.

In extreme cases, an orthodontist may treat patients with a palate expander. It widens the arch of the upper jaw, giving the area more space. Another possibility is headgear, a more dramatic solution for misaligned teeth. This device connects the back of the head to a wire in the front of the mouth. Its purpose is to pull back front teeth while slowing an upper jaw in danger of growing too fast.

How Much Training Does an Orthodontist Need?

An orthodontist must first complete regular dental training. A dental school generally requires four years of classes to graduate. Most dentists stop at this point and begin practicing their trade. Orthodontists can’t do that yet.

To earn a license to practice as an orthodontist, the person must take more classes. Most dental schools require another two to three years of training before a student qualifies as an orthodontist. Effectively, an orthodontist is a dentist with almost double the training, most of it specialized in the field of straightening teeth.

How Does an Appointment with an Orthodontist Work?

An appointment with an orthodontist is almost identical to one with a dentist. You’ll go to the medical office and remain seated until the desk clerk calls your name. At this point, you’ll head to the exam room. Since you probably received a referral to the orthodontist, you already know that you have an alignment problem with your teeth. Overbites and underbites are the most common problems. Whatever the issue, the orthodontist will inspect your mouth to decide the best course of action.

For certain treatments, you should expect several return visits. That’s particularly true if you need braces. First, you’ll receive the diagnosis followed by a preparatory session and some x-rays. Next, you’ll have the braces installed. Afterward, you’ll visit on a regularly scheduled basis to make sure that the braces are in working order. Finally, the dentist will remove the braces. The entire process usually takes one to three years. Once the orthodontist removes the braces, your teeth have been successfully straightened.

When it comes to straightening your teeth, booking an appointment with dentist first is the best course of action. If your dentist believes you can be treated with Invisalign, you may not need to see an orthodontist at all. But your dentist will know best and will refer you to an orthodontic specialist if your case requires it.

If you do visit an orthodontist, you should have confidence that you’re visiting a skilled professional. While you may have to wear braces, an aligner, or metal headgear for a while, your orthodontist has your best interests at heart and will work to deliver you the best smile possible.

If your dental insurance covers orthodontics, it might be a good idea to consider starting the treatment towards the end of a calendar year so that your treatment payments can span 2 years since most insurance plans will have an annual limit.
